FEBRUARY 11 UPDATE: THE SAVE AMERICA ACT PASSED THE HOUSE!
Make sure it covers elections on or after November 1, 2026.
Election Day is November 3rd.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has been stalling this bill. Meanwhile, Senator Mike Lee, the sponsor of the bill, has been working on lining up cosponsors and support to vote for it.
Currently, there are still only three holdouts, Senators Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski, and Thom Tillis.
Sen. Lee is urging Sen. Thune to invoke a “Talking Filibuster,” which would cause the Democrats who oppose the bill to put their explanations of why they won’t vote for the bill on the record for the American people to see. As this is an “80/20” issue with the majority of Americans in favor of it, would Democrats expose the fact that they are in opposition to what the vast majority of Americans want?
Polls show over 70% of Democrats and 95% of Republicans want what’s in this bill. That would be political suicide for Democrats.
The Talking Filibuster is not the same thing as the “nuclear option,” which would do away with the filibuster entirely. This is for this bill only, and does not change the Senate rules. For more information, see the article below.

Only American citizens should be able to vote in American elections.
The Save Act has been reintroduced by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and by U.S. Representative Chip Roy (R-TX-21) as HR7296.
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act or Save America Act amends the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to require proof of United States citizenship to register an individual to vote in elections for Federal office.
